Why Millenials Are Choosing Botox & Fillers

Botox is typically associated with those that are middle-aged looking to turn back the clock. However, in our social-media obsessed world it’s no surprise that millennials are also turning to Botox and fillers to look the best online! According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Botox procedures have seen a 28% increase and dermal fillers have seen a 32% increase since 2010 among the people between the ages of 20- 29.

Older generations are concerned with correcting damage already done, while people in their 20’s and 30’s are trying to stay ahead of the game and be pro-active in preserving their skin tone and avoiding unwanted lines. Increasingly popular among millenials is preventative Botox. In order to ward off wrinkles, this treats the facial muscles you use more frequently. Many consider it just another form of grooming, like getting a facial or a wax.

What is Botox and how does it work?

Botox is a popular name brand for Botulinum Toxin Type A, an injectable neuromodulator that can weaken select facial muscles to smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles. This popular treatment can be used in the upper face to improve crow’s feet, forehead lines, frown lines, and even lift the eyebrows.

What age should I start getting Botox?

The FDA has approved the formula for those 18 and older. There is no exact age when you should start, but the sooner you treat facial signs of aging, the better your results will be. If a patient is seeing traces of lines in the mid-to-late twenties or early thirties, it’s best to act now! The later you start, it will be much more difficult to achieve the same results.

Will I look frozen?

Botox is not noticeable if injected in small doses by a trained physician. Results will be subtle and natural looking, with patients looking well rested, more open and youthful eyes and more defined brows. Our board certified plastic surgeons at Suffolk Plastic Surgeons will never make your face appear frozen!

What Are Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable formulas, similar to Botox, but they do not affect the facial muscles. Fillers add subtle volume and to fill certain facial areas. They are used to improve the appearance of wrinkles, enhancing sunken eyes and achieving fuller cheeks and lips. Fillers can help improve facial proportions, helping patients of all ages achieve subtle results that enhance their natural beauty. It is important to note that with constant changes to the types of filler used and the different approved uses that you should always consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon.

In the age of selfies and online reviews, millienials feel more comfortable sharing their injectable experiences. That stigma about “having work done” has left as the population in general becomes more open about cosmetic enhancements. Many people feel comfortable sharing their experiences with injectables and even more significant procedures, thanks in part to the popularity of online reviews.

While we never want to rush plastic surgery, Botox and fillers can be a great option to prevent signs of aging. Contact Suffolk Plastic Surgeons, P.C. today at 631-364-0333 to book your appointment!

In order to keep a healthy glow inside and out this season, it is important to consider eating well and hydrating frequently. Here are some foods on our “To Eat” list that will help you look and feel your best all summer long:

  • Watermelon. This symbol of summer is around 90 percent water, which hydrates the body!
  • Berries. Packed with antioxidants, berries can protect skin from the damaging effects of the sun.
  • Pineapple. Packed with vitamins and minerals, this fruit is thought to help lessen inflammation which could bring comfort for people with sunburns.
  • Citrus Fruits. Full of vitamin C and amino acids, citrus fruits play a role in collagen production, which can keep skin looking young.

How does Microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion is a spa procedure that rejuvenates the appearance of the skin by treating sun damage, scarring, wrinkles and other unwanted skin problems. It may be combined with other procedures such as chemical peels or laser treatment.

During the procedure, your doctor will use a handheld device to transmit tiny crystal particles across the targeted area of aged or damaged skin to scrape away the surface layer. This skin is then suctioned away with a vacuum tool so that the fresh, healthy underlying skin remains. This spa procedure leaves you with fresh, younger-looking skin and a renewed appearance!

The procedure is performed in your doctor’s office and does not require any anesthesia to be used. There is no downtime associated with this procedure, and patients can return to work or other regular activities immediately after. You may experience mild redness for about an hour after the procedure, but this usually goes away on its own. Most patients can achieve noticeable results after a series of five to ten treatment sessions spaced one to two weeks apart.

Choosing the right facial rejuvenation procedure

Have you lost confidence in your appearance as you aged? Do you look in the mirror and wish your younger self was looking back at you? Well we might not be able to turn back time, we can help counteract signs of aging! In time, gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their toll on our faces and necks. A facelift can help address these stresses, and have you looking 10-15 years younger!

Facelifts counteract signs of aging by tightening muscle, removing fat, and trimming excess skin, giving your face a fresher, youthful look. They are most effective for patients who want to correct midface sagging, deep creases under the eyes and between the nose and mouth, and loose skin and fat under the chin and jaw.
