Saline or Silicone – Which Implant is Right for You?
So you’ve decided on breast augmentation, but you have one major decision left – saline or silicone. Breast implants are silicone shells that are filled with either saline (salt water) or silicone gel. Both implant types are safe, but offer different advantages.
Saline tends to be significantly less expensive than silicone, and offers more adjustability. It also creates a smaller scar. The largest advantage to saline is that it offers to most options for volumes, this is based on the patient’s desired implant diameter and size.
On the other hand, silicone gives the patient a more natural feeling and tends to ripple less. It is also important to note that silicone may “silently” rupture, meaning it shows no signs in the case of a break. However, silicone tends to rupture less frequently than saline implants.
Both options are viable and are approved by the FDA. Here at Suffolk Plastic Surgeons, we offer both types of implants. If you are considering a breast augmentation, contact us at (631)494-2214.
